Old Testament Study: Nahum

Sooo... reading the book of Nahum.  It's a little tiny book of the Bible that isn't talked about much, but it has a wonderful message!

The city of Ninevah is the most powerful city on earth during this time, but they are also very wicked.  It is the capital of the brutal Assyrian Empire.  Nahum prophecies about the city:  “Woe to the bloody city!” (Nahum 3:1).  God will show His judgment on the city, who has been filled with idolatry and cruelty. Nahum’s prophecy later comes true when Ninevah is overrun by the Babylonian Empire in 612 BC.  It amazes me how many prophecies are in the Bible, and the way that history proves them true.  One of my favorite verses in Nahum is 1:7, “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who trust in Him.” He knows the depths of our hearts; He knows when we trust in Him.  I love this so much!  Learning to trust Him completely is very hard, but it is something that I think He’s been teaching me while I’ve been in Austria.  Even the most powerful city on earth (Ninevah) was no match for God’s strength.  Neither is the biggest problem in our individual lives.
